Arrival — Haneda and Narita are not the same journey
MAP ↗Clear immigration (Visit Japan Web QR done on the flight saves 20–30 min), collect bags, and pick up or activate the IC card before leaving the terminal. Then treat your airport as its own problem. Haneda is ≈18 km out: Keikyu or the Monorail put you central in 30–55 min for ¥330–680. Narita is ≈60 km out in Chiba: the Narita Express runs to Tokyo Station in 55–95 min for ≈¥3,070, the Keisei Skyliner reaches Nippori/Ueno in 41–75 min for ≈¥2,580, and the Limousine Bus takes 75–140 min to hotel doors. Load ¥5,000 on the IC card and no small movement becomes a decision again.

VISA: APPLY THROUGH THE OFFICIAL CHANNEL
Indian passport holders need a visa before flying. Apply either on Japan's official eVisa portal (evisa.mofa.go.jp) or through the application centre appointed by the Embassy/Consulates of Japan in India — those are the actual channels. Authorised travel agents can prepare and submit the paperwork and often sell rail passes too, but they are a convenience, not the issuing authority. On pass prices: a 7-day ordinary Japan Rail Pass is ¥50,000 (Green ¥70,000) for purchases up to 30 Sep 2026, rising to ¥53,000 / ¥74,000 from 1 Oct 2026 — the price that applies is the one on your purchase date. Verified against official sources on 16 Aug 2026.

Check in — choose your hotel world first
MAP ↗Don't compare every Tokyo hotel against every other hotel. First choose the world: Central & calm (Palace–Ginza–Nihombashi: Peninsula, Palace Hotel, Mandarin Oriental, Four Seasons Marunouchi, Imperial) or Minato & social (Okura, Janu, EDITION, Andaz, Ritz-Carlton, Grand Hyatt). Then choose the property. First-timers: Peninsula. Calm and service: Palace Hotel. Splurge and scene: Janu, Azabudai Hills.

DINNER CLOSES EARLY
Japan is not India on food timings. Kitchens take last order 20:30–21:30 and many close entirely by 22:00. Plan dinner for 18:30–19:30, not 21:30. Lunch is equally strict: 11:30–14:00, then many kitchens shut until 17:30.
